Objective: Rebuild homes for families affected by a series of hurricanes in 2008.
Where: 4 communities in La Gonave, Haiti
Beneficiaries: 7 families
Funding Partners: Private Donors
$47.5 billion in damages from the quake, with 800 people killed in Haiti alone.
Over the span of 30 days in the fall of 2008, Haiti experienced four major storms that battered the communities where we work. Our partners in APDAG asked us to help rebuild homes for neighbors whose houses had been destroyed during the storms. Roots of Development helped APDAG rebuild seven homes for seven families in four different communities on the island of La Gonave. It is unknown for how long those families would have remained in compromised structures if APDAG and Roots hadn’t worked together to address the situation.
