Official Development Plan for the Commune of Anse-a-Galets.
Roots of Development and its partners are working with the Mayor of Anse-a-Galets to bring together leaders of local government and civil society on La Gonave to elaborate an official Communal Development Plan for the commune of Anse-a-Galets.
The aim of the Communal Development Plan (CDP) is to harmonize the needs and priorities identified by the local population to produce a strategic plan for the development of the commune. It will not only serve as a guide to developing the municipality but also as a tool to attract partners and investors that can help realize the municipality’s development goals.
The CDP will be a published document written using a framework recommended by the appropriate Haitian government authority (Ministère de la Planification et de la Coopération Externe). It will include basic information and statistics about the island, a history of development in the commune, the various actors working on the island, and a snapshot of the various development sectors and activities within each region (section) of the commune. It will also include a formal plan and budget for addressing the top five project priorities identified by the mayor and civil society during the development of the CDP.
The ultimate goal is to help local government officials and the local population become better equipped to manage their own development efforts. The other objectives of the project are to…
- Increase an understanding of (and the skills involved in) data collection, project management, budgeting and financial management, and governance.
- Create an opportunity for diverse representatives of the municipality (“commune”) to come together and work together on a shared objective: developing La Gonave to improve quality of life on the island.
- Acquire and distribute a greater amount of information about La Gonave, through both independent research and the collection of local knowledge.
